Thiruvananthapuram: In a remarkable surge ahead of the Onam festive season, liquor sales in Kerala have scaled new heights, recording a massive turnover of ₹232.99 crore in just three days. Between 18 and 20 August, the state-run Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) outlets witnessed unprecedented demand, reflecting the grand scale of festive celebrations across the state.
A massive spike in revenue
According to official data, the revenue of ₹232.99 crore marks a significant increase of ₹23.1 crore compared to the corresponding festive period last year. During the first three days of the Onam season last year, BEVCO registered liquor sales of ₹209.89 crore. This year’s remarkable growth highlight soaring consumer spending during Kerala’s most celebrated cultural festival.
BEVCO outlets lead the charge
State-owned retail outlets across Kerala reported an intense rush during these three days as people stocked up for the holidays. BEVCO, which holds a monopoly over the distribution and retail sale of liquor in Kerala, had put in place extensive arrangements to manage the heavy footfall and ensure hassle-free service at all key locations.
