A dispute over Onam celebration dress code escalated into a violent clash among students at Chattanchal Higher Secondary School, leaving four injured. One junior student sustained a serious eye injury, while others were hit with stones during the altercation. Following the incident, the school discipline committee and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) decided to suspend the students involved and lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The trouble began during the Onam celebrations held on August 21. With permission from school authorities, students from Class 10 (SSLC), Class 11 (Plus One), and Class 12 (Plus Two) had arranged their own distinct dress codes. However, a group of senior Plus Two students objected to the attire chosen by their junior Plus One counterparts, sparking an argument that turned into a physical fight.

As the situation deteriorated, school authorities intervened to remove the troublemakers from the campus and locked the school gates. Despite this, the confrontation spilled onto the streets, with the brawl continuing outside nearby local shops. The clash persisted into the afternoon, prompting local police to intervene at the school after being alerted about the worsening situation.

According to school sources, a group of around 18 Plus Two students allegedly targeted and assaulted the junior students. Those injured in the melee sought medical attention at the local family health centre.
Following the incident, an emergency disciplinary meeting was convened under the leadership of Principal Shailaja K Gopalan to address the violence. A joint meeting led by PTA President PK Vinodkumar, which was attended by Vice President Abdul Khader Chattanchal, Majeed Bendichal, N Unnikrishnan, and A Sunitha, strongly condemned the behaviour. The school has initiated strict disciplinary action, including the suspension of the offending students, while confirming that the overall Onam celebration programmes at the school proceeded as scheduled.
